Broadway Lullabies

I have had this dream in my back pocket for about 20 years to record a collection of Broadway Lullabies. As an unapologetic musical theater nerd, becoming a mom meant singing beloved showtunes as lullabies to my kids every night. These songs lingered on my heart, and eventually, this idea of recording just kept coming back to me. So I started a list – a collection of songs that reminded me of my own childhood or connected with me. That list remained untouched for years, until I received a Mother’s Day gift a few years ago for studio time to start this project in earnest. A few pushes later from my husband and manager, and my dream project finally became a reality.

One of the things I love most about music is that as it is experienced by multiple generations it becomes something new – each song and each person involved is a thread that weaves together to create a personal work of art – a tapestry or a quilt. So here I am, weaving the threads of what came before me and what I came to love on my own.
This collection includes everything from golden age musicals to hidden gems that have made a lasting impression on me. While not every song was intended as a lullaby, each one has taken me to a place of dreams or comfort. A well worn piece that I could wrap around myself.

I am lucky enough to know so many talented musicians, so I asked my friends to join me on this collaborative adventure. And each one said Yes! I wanted the musical arrangements to give each artist the space for their own creativity, as well as allowing the songs to stand on their own. I hope that you enjoy these selections – whether you are rocking a baby, soothing a grandchild, or searching for your own place to dream.
