Paralysed by Nathan Wall-Jones

A mixture of Jazz and Classical music for melodramatic goblins. Or Jazz Fusion sexually identifying as the universe with a piano. Though I struggle to find a label for it, my piano and vocal music is kind of it's own thing.

I have been working on my own kind of music, not looking for a specific genre as such, but looking for a perfect way to represent the moods and thoughts I was going through in my life. Which is also why I struggle to find a genre for it.

I've focused on mocking Punch and Judy with the honkey-tonk sound of Strawberry Jam, I have tried to make a heavy industrial sound for Blood Money and I tried to invoke something almost Cyberpunk with the 'Flash Gordenesk' opening, leading into something more sombre and reflective for Hard Reset. All while trying to use classical influences for my instrumentals. To establish the grand opening feeling of Out of the Fog and Industrial March, the sweeping evolving melody of Odyssey, the reflective sombre piece of Ash Snow and the grand, hard hitting yet also reflective send-off which is Forged in Thunder.

As the title suggests this describes a state of social-paralysis, that keeps people from finding meaningful work, struggle to move on, are constantly aware that at any minute could be made redundant and in building their world around them out of particular mundane objects find life to be depressingly bleak, leading them to distance themselves from others. And yet, at the end of it find the strength that even in the darkest of times be able to move past all of that. In short, it is a light that shines all the brighter by the fact that it is shone at the end of a very long dark tunnel. It also concerns the cold, competitive nature for others to gain money over the wellbeing of others in Blood Money, the dismissive nature of peoples abuse in Strawberry Jam, as well as the corrupting influence of image in media with Razor Thin.

This is not an album for you to feel happy about, but I hope with songs like Hollow addresses the worth of the things that truly weigh people down and Hard Reset, which is to address the nature of the paths that people can take and to strive for something better, that the album is at the very least inspiring.

I would say I have been influenced most by Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Black Sabbath and Nina Simone. I have also been compared to Anthony and the Johnsons, which I take as a flattering comparison.
