Faceless by Carly Bryant

‘Faceless’ is strongly inspired by my time living in Paris and the French musicians, writers and artists who drew me in. Social media was surging into our lives at a frightening speed. I began to notice that those who subscribed to this new way of life were less and less able to be truthful about their realities and that, to me, everything felt to be staged for an audience to feast upon or envy. I wrote songs about three characters whose lives weren’t for the gallery…’Requiem for Freda’ is a story of disallowed queer love and hidden identity, ‘Underground Man’ is a story of homelessness and loss, and ‘The Euro Star’ is a story of unrealised dreams. The bookends to these three tales, ‘Faceless Faces’ and ‘Recapitulation’, are about identity. Mine now, mine then. And maybe mine tomorrow.

Carly Bryant studied classical music and orchestration, became a busker in Brighton and a mainstay on the singer songwriter circuit there, moved to Paris, toured four continents as a musician for various artists including the global phenomenon Os Mutantes, moved to the Kent coast and set up a network of choirs.
