We are A COAT.

Kurt was once in A BOAT. He wants to go through the alphabet and collect his pension one day while writing songs in A MOAT.

I am Johnny Brownbow. I did the words and most of the voices, and other bits and pieces. Kurt Jurgens did all the electronic parts; the drums, the squelches, the belches ... and some beautiful guitar. He's something of a genius. We once lived in the same Halls of Residence. A close friend and I, by coincidence, had a concurrent need one time to visit the basement toilets. Shortly after we took to our cubicles, Jurgens wandered in with a twelve-string and a bottleneck. The acoustics were good down there. Quite independently, we both stayed listening inside the cubicles long after our respective bowels were emptied. There was magic going on that needed to be listened to.

There are guests on this LP who will be named shortly.

No animals were harmed in the making of this album, though Kurt's dog Poppy makes a sparkling, impromptu appearance. A COAT are hoping fame doesn't go to Poppy's head, but he certainly deserves the finest Pedigree Chum and even a rump steak or two over the next few months.

Other animals are sampled. A hippo, frogs, dogs, puffins, garden birds and a mongoose all make appearances. As does a lampshade, cutlery and a washing machine - but can you guess where?

This album was mastered by Tim Benton, formerly of Baxendale and latterly of Parenthesis Dot Dot Dot, a kind and generous man, who is a jack of many trades and a master of a fair few of them. I can't really do that sort of stuff, so this is invaluable help. Thanks, Tim.

All the artwork for this album was done by Ollie Hutchinson. Ollie used to be the drummer in A BOAT. We love him, and everything he touches turns to gold.

A COAT by A COAT was recorded mostly in Lincolnshire and Chartres, but contributions were added in London, Ramsgate, Southsea, Liverpool, Airoux, Tokyo and Ozark County.

A special mention to my lovely better half Jo Lewis, who must have heard these songs over a hundred times as I tweaked and tweaked, yet never complained. xx

There remain some imperfections in the mixing on this album; but's it time to put it out now. Bin' a long time in the making ...
