Afterglow by Wrekonize
On February 4th 2015, a long time friend that i'd known since elementary school lost her mother. 5 days later, i drove up to Hollywood to attend her memorial service. When i was there i found myself overrun with many emotions. Sympathy for my friend who lost her mother. The discomfort with being around an open coffin (it was the first time that i'd been to a service like that in my adult life), and the nostalgia of seeing so many high school friends that I hadn't seen in years. It was a night forever ingrained into my memory.
During the service, they passed out benediction cards or prayer cards that contained a hymn or poem titled Afterglow.
I took it home with me and stared at it and thought of the concept quite literally. When someone leaves you and they are no longer around, it's as if they take their literal light away and in many cases you just want to bask in that glow and wish it was still around.
Around that same time, NonMS had just sent me a piece of music that matched this feeling almost perfectly. It was trippy how perfectly timed this piece of music was when it arrived. I penned Afterglow as an ode to that experience, that longing for someone, and primarily for my friend Jenn who had lost her mother. I had never written anything like it before and it was a challenge i'm so happy to have taken on.
It was previously only released as a NonMs single with me as a feature and soft released to Youtube & Soundcloud. Today that changes with an official collaborative release to streaming services.
