Woodini shares new track ‘Alive’ taken from his forthcoming EP via Folded Music.
The eclectic French producer quietly joined the roster at the tail end of last year with a re-release of his three-track ‘Owpale’ EP after impressing label head Asta Hiroki with his production skills and in person when the two met in Paris.
Like many of the Folded Music stable he is an explorative type whose sonic character straddles multiple styles, and typically he works at the intersection of Hip Hop, Electronica and Soul Music. However the new body of work has a distinctly different taste to it with the primary musical influences coming from across the Channel in the form of UK Underground Dance and Jungle Breaks.
The first offering from the new collection, ‘Alive’, is a progressive work of modern electronica and breaks. Kinetic, urgent, playful, and building - it is built for the dancefloor, but also shows depth, intelligence too within its well-crafted arrangement. The perfect entrée for his EP coming later this year which promises more delights in various shapes and sizes.
Reminiscent of the new-school Jungle artists such as Nia Archives, Tim Reaper and the like, Woodini doesn’t just look back and regurgitate the same old stylistic tropes, but instead blends and melds his wide-ranging pool of influences together to push the sounds forward and blur the lines between genres.
Woodini has won support from some huge tastemakers including Rolling Stone magazine, Nowness, Konbini, Trax, Radio Nova, and Les Inrocks and achieved high profile brand syncs with the likes of Honda, Chanel, Dior and more. With this new label partnership and Folded Music’s reputation for helping independent left field artists punch up, that list looks only set to increase with these new releases…
Parisian with a smooth skull. Nocturnal and artistic, Woodini's electronic music is infused with a light, dark soul. Overlooking a few rare machines and armed with tracks designed for the dancefloor or the wrinkle, the beatmaker's fluid gestures put a smile on his face.
