ENVITASYON by Wilbert Chancy
Le baryton Wilbert Chancy fait paraître Envitasyon, un nouvel album de chants populaires d’Haïti auto-produit au Canada. Le premier haïtien à remporter des concours télévisés de chant à l’international (ORTF, Paris, 1964) veut par ce disque, « laisser un legs à la postérité ».
Chancy confie que les chants qu’il a choisis « ont pour la plupart bercé son enfance » ; « ils expriment d’une façon simple et dépouillée […] les sentiments les plus profonds d’un peuple ».
Baritone Wilbert Chancy releases Envitasyon, a new album of popular songs from Haiti self-produced in Canada. The first Haitian to win international television singing contests (ORTF, Paris, 1964) wants by this record, «leave a legacy to posterity».
Chancy confides that the songs he chose “have for the most part rocked his childhood”; “they express in a simple and bare way […] the deepest feelings of a people”.
