Lyrics

Elizabeth was a lady
Who many years ago
Caught a ship from far away
And landed on our shores.
She married a nice Lutheran
With sparkling blue eyes
They had a beautiful family
But in childbirth she died.

The Lutheran remarried.
He thought his wife was good
But like a nightmare from a fairytale
Her heart was made of wood.
The children lived in terror
The husband never the same.
How would it have been different
If Elizabeth remained?

I am a daughter of Elizabeth.
A great-great Granddaughter
Of the great Elizabeth.
Though we've known sorrow
And trials of our own
There's no one that I'd rather be
Than Elizabeth's own.

My childhood was no better
My mother harsh and mean.
Would she have learned those habits
If Elizabeth stayed queen?
The pain it trickles slowly
Through generations far.
But love still shines like light surrounds
From Elizabeth's star.

I am a daughter of Elizabeth.
A great-great Granddaughter
Of the great Elizabeth.
Though we've known sorrow
And trials of our own
There's no one that I'd rather be
Than Elizabeth's own.
