burning up
the heat of june
the evening
couldn't come too soon
i see you still
in the town we share

are you really there?

the harvest moon
the glowing fire
we were younger
picking flowers
in the shade
cast by the mountain
i was hopeful
sleepless and weird

the full moon came
pink and weary
petal
i felt you near me
we clapped our hands
did all the gestures
the sun
is still setting in that bedroom

stop sleeping in
the summer
is ending
stop breathing in
i am frightened
of the mountain

smoke from my neighbor's chimney
floats into my room
through the window i forgot to close
