Strange [VHT36] by Alex Okami
Dark indie artist Alex Okami is back with his new EP, βStrange,β to be released on cassette with Violet Hour Transmissions on January 25th.
This EP encapsulates several new singles released over the past year, including the very well-received tracks βIn The Darkβ (of which the cassette will feature an extraordinary remix by Corbeau Hangs) and βHaunted By You.β These songs have seen Alex Okami combine his distinctive indie singer-songwriter style with a more classically darkwave sound with gothic flair, at which he succeeds with aplomb.
βStrangeβ will carry you through five brooding and bitter tracks that feel, at least to me, uncannily like grieving a relationship that never should have been - whether Alex is somberly describing the tortured feeling of having been left behind in darkness, βtorn apart at the seams so that [they] may have [their] wayβ or directing playful and sardonic scorn at this same person who now βchases [their] tail around the sun.β Dive into the heart of love had and lost with morose guitar and deep, emotive vocals (the like of which have not been heard since Dave Gahan) underscored by catchy and captivating electronic beats. π¦π π₯
