Incomplete [VHT10] by Petrified Entity
Petrified Entity (the coldwave/ebm/gothic techno project of Tony Gloom, hailing from Richmond, Virginia) is an incredibly prolific, ever-evolving artist, having released five full albums, an EP, and several singles within the span of a year.
It is a beautiful crystalline vision, brought to life through a cold lens which brings that vision into sharpest, magnified focus.
Tony Gloomβs demonstrated grasp of chord progressions and transitions interweave many layered textures of synths, guitar, drums, and vocals to creates an immersive lush yet minimal soundscape.
Vocally, Petrified Entity has a signature spoken-word style. Thematically, Petrified Entity grapples with common threads of dissociation and alienation, and how these deeply personal aspects of self intersect with themes of power and disenfranchisement within broader society. The interplay of these themes with overt meditations on the metaphysical makes Petrified Entity something very special: a project willing to consider the metaphysical basis of power and self. π§Ώ π
Incomplete is the most melodic album of the lot, with guitar lines reminiscent of The Cure and synth textures that call to mind some of the best of Bragolin. This album is gorgeous - higher notes combined with deep vocals serve to enhance one another, and the whole album is peppered with beautiful and emotive chord progressions. This album seems to meditate primarily on loneliness and the feeling of entrapment in a place that one knows they donβt belong.
