Formed in 2012, Witch Will Die are masterful purveyors of an old-school dark punk/post-punk/goth rock sound that will feel familiar to fans of Christian Death and Joy Division, Specimen and Sisters of Mercy alike. Guitar-forward throughout, the album shines through its medley of influences - riding lines across atmospheric and gazey gothic rock, driving dark punk dirges, and brutalizing heavy metal guitar riffs. Even the vocal style might at one moment be a sorrowful gothic croon, and the next a guttural heavy metal growl. The perfect counterbalancing of these disparate elements makes this album a genuinely fun and engaging listen - if youβre on the lookout for something to take you back to the good old days and the Batcave, your wait is over.
