“School Bus” written by Hott Flannel
There was a time there, from about 1992 to 2002, when Half A Cow was receiving about 5 to 10 submissions a week from bands, solo acts, comedy duos – all wanting to be signed to the label. Of course that was impossible but every tape or compact disc was listened to and usually sent a reply.
Most of these recordings have been forwarded to National Film And Sound Archives but there are a couple of boxes of over-looked gems that Half A Cow always felt should see the light of day. And now with the digital world, that has become a relatively quick and easy reality.
Which brings us to Hott Flannel and their one track they sent to Half A Cow in 1996. No, they’re not from the north-west coast of the USA, but from the outer inner-west suburbs of Sydney. This was that period in the 90s when the singer wanted to either sound like Eddie Vedder or Jeff Buckey. Or both!
We tracked the members of Hott Flannel down (thanks Facebook!) and we’ve done a licensing agreement for their one and only song “School Bus”. Brandon, from the band, who is now a high school teacher, says they did record other tracks but: “they will remain in the attic for a very, very long time!”
