Waxwings is Vernons Future’s second single of 2024, following gothic disco banger Steerpike. There will be an accompanying video released simultaneously and the song and video were recorded at Glasshouse Studios, Oxford. (Fun Fact!: this is the first time that the band have actually appeared in one of their videos - you can decide if that’s a good thing or not!). They will celebrate with a gig at The Dublin Castle, Camden on Tuesday 27 August, one of only a handful of gigs they have planned in London this year.
Frontman Simon Burchill says of Waxwings: “This was a somewhat unexpected bonus from our latest recording session. We’d gone with half a dozen songs in mind, including some longstanding live favourites, but we all felt that this new tune had a little something special. The lyrics are a bit of a counterpoint to the sunny music though - it’s a meditation on friendship and loss... but hopefully with a silver lining of redemption too.”
Vernons Future are a UK indie band from Oxford/London with a distinctive twist on the poppier end of the indie spectrum.
VF were born as The Vernons in Liverpool back in the 80’s, releasing ‘Smithdown Road’ on Probe Plus in 1990.
In 2015 VF rebooted with Simon, Andy, Jon, Tom and Hoops. Second album ‘Aquaplaning’, was released in 2022, and followed by singles ‘Steerpike’ and ‘Waxwings’ in 2024.
