ENDSCAPES by VALDEN

ENDSCAPES, the third album by VALDEN, is a further exploration of the current world enviroment, a contemporary soundscape, a sonic sensible description of the planet.


The music of VALDEN is characterized by a special combination of improvised music from different influences.
We can find the origins of this sound by the end of the 70´s when, for example, Elliot Sharp and Christian Malrclay or Zeena Parkins, among other North American artists, began to use more and more electro-acoustic means in their music. Many times in this free improvised-music context, the artists are coming from different musical backgrounds.
In the case of Peña and Massari, the background is free improvisation but also classical contemporary (Tony Peña as an interpreter and organizer, Riccardo Massari as a composer and performer).
These two musicians, in fact, have a certain habit for logical construction, a tendency to instant composition that they can abandon for a while in free-improvisation, but that somehow remains in their blood.
At the same time in the music of VALDEN we can find a tendency for melodic construction, something that expands the noisy improvised textures taking the music to a wider narrative scope.

VALDEN is a project of electronic music improvisation and composition, booted by Riccardo Massari and Tony Peña. VALDEN is based in Barcelona and Tenerife since 2017.
