A journey by wing and fin through Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset along the River Avon.
From the vast prehistoric henge at Marden, down to the coast at Hengistbury Head, inhabited for at least 14,000 years and, like Marden, an important ceremonial and burial site for the region’s ancient inhabitants.
Neil Mortimer (Urthona) and Mark O Pilkington (Teleplasmiste), have been playing music together in various formations for approaching two decades. Luminous Foundation sees them exploring joyous improvised electronic rhythms and abstractions on modular synthesiser, analogue keyboard and vintage drum machine. Each of Afon’s two tracks was recorded in a single take and invokes revered musical ancestors such as Cluster, Tim Blake and TONTO’s Expanding Head Band.
The cover photograph is of the Avon river valley from Martinsell Hill, Wiltshire.
