cohol consumption is deeply rooted in many aspects of British culture. It is often viewed as socially acceptable regardless of the damage it causes. This project is a sonification using the data set corresponding to the number of alcohol related deaths in Scotland between 1979 and 2019. The project uses the data to drive musical decision, textures, instrumentation and visual parameters. The intention is to make the audience feel uncomfortable and send a stark reminder of the damage alcohol causes to our society and individual health. This sonification is to be displayed with its corresponding visual patch which would be played through a CRT screen in a black room. The use of a CRT screen would emphasise an uncanny aesthetic; an attempt to play on human fears by showing something unsettling on something familiar. A PA system would be used for the sound and played at high volume. The patch continuously plays; it doesn’t necessarily have a beginning or an end. A large bucket of cheap vodka would be in the room with an open lid giving the audience an olfactory element to the experience.
