Unreason by Zelda and the Unibrows

This album, though our shortest, is a step forward in style and production technique. The music incorporates collage, field recordins, trans-Atlantic recording sessions. our first-ever work with an ensemble, our first music video ("City Kids", 2005) and first short film ("Unreason", 2010).

In 2001 when "Neves-eatnouT" came out I sometimes referred to it as "filmless film music", but by 2010 when I completed the short film of the same name, our own music had become score. The idea for the 2010 short existed in 2006 when we plotted this album, but at that time we did not have the resources to execute the idea as a music video and relegated it to a bit of narration on the album read by Swedish electronic musician Psilodump. The plot he describes in his narration on the track "Particle Boredom" gives an obscure introduction to the characters Paul and I later portrayed in the short, as well as clues about why we might be in an airplane.

The plane on the front cover, re-illustrated by Jeff Jablonski, is a parody of an obscure photo of John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen which can these days be found in an image search. We replaced the river, seen in the original, with the star buildings of Detroit's Financial District: The Penobscot, Buhl, and Guardian. Designed by architect Wirt Rowland, these magnificent structures became part of our obsession during this period, when each of us were in our transition from living in the suburbs of Detroit to living in the city proper. The building remain objects of stability and beauty that defy the blights that have destroyed much of the city, and in which one's spirits are lifted even if simply there for coffee.

Zelda and the Unibrows is a quirky multimedia music project from Detroit. It has taken many forms over the years, including albums, videos, blogs, theatre and zines.
