Polyphonic by Masami Takashima

Masami Takashima, producer & SSW, releases her sixth full-length solo album. The result is a multi-layered album that transcends genres and weaves together physical grooves, piano, electronic sounds, and overlapping voices. The arrangements for this album were developed based on the premise of live performances and human-powered grooves. In addition to the worldview of her recent works, the album contains a variety of tracks with various expressions of alternative, neo-soul, and even jazz elements. Participating musicians are mineo kawasaki, Hirofumi Hatano, Hisayo, and Ichito Mori, with cover artwork collage by 4ho and recorded and mixed by Keishiro Iwatani.


Masami Takashima通算6枚目のアルバム「Polyphonic」をリリース。過去作ではほとんどが自身のプログラミングとシンセ、ボーカルを中心に制作されたダウンテンポ/チルウェイブに 接近したサウンドとじわり込み上げる楽曲が連なる作品となっていたが、オルタナティブR&B的 なデジタルシングル、ピアノアンビエント作などのリリースをはさんで制作された今作では多くの 楽曲でゲストミュージシャンを迎え、フィジカルなグルーブとピアノ、電子音響が織りなすアルバムが完成した。

近作の人力チルウェイブな世界観をよりプログレッシブに、アップデートしたような冒頭を飾るアンセムトラック「Kotoba」、スリルジョッキー以降のオルタナティブの温度感も垣間見える 「Anywhere」、ニュージャズやネオソウルからの影響を感じさせる「屋根の上」、「街の間」、 象徴的なピアノとシンセやリバーブワークから同時代のFKA twigsやレジェンド冨田勲へのリスペクトを想起させる「惑星」、シンセとビートのレイヤー感が中期ポーティスヘッド、マイスパレードなどにも通じる「現象」など、アルバムタイトル通り多彩で一つのジャンルにカテゴライズするのは難しいものの、アルバム全体には一貫した質感・聴感をもった楽曲が揃い、これまでの自身のオリジナリティを進化、確立したとも言える作品となっている。ボーナストラックはCDのみ収録。
