Outremer by Trouvere Medieval Minstrels
Outremer marks a departure from the more 'authentic' sounds that Trouvere normally aims for. Here, we create a fusion of old songs in new arrangements, together with original compositions, and presented on a mix of ancient and modern instruments.
We have taken 'Outremer' as a theme, and the notion of the Holy Land and its seemingly irresistible lure informed all our choices as we created these sounds. Five of the pieces are directly based on surviving medieval melodies and two of these, 'Exhortation' and 'Peace', were both originally medieval songs on the theme of crusading.
