Zwyze by Trio Flux
Zwyze brings to life Adam Ochshorn’s final compositions, written in the year before his passing and reimagined by his Trio Flux bandmates and friends. The album was produced by Steve “Swatkins” Watkins, a lifelong friend of Adam’s who ensured the project stayed true to its mission of honoring Adam’s compositions while preserving the distinctive Trio Flux sound. Recorded at Anjuna Recording Studio in Portland, the album features Trio Flux co-founders Neil Mattson (guitar) and Julio Appling (bass), joined by drummers Tyrone Hendrix, Brent Follis, and Micah Hummel, along with Mike Elson and Jake Savage on keyboards, and Jeff Gordon on percussion. Portland trumpeter and composer Thomas Barber, a long-time supporter of the group dating back to the Camellia Lounge era, composed and arranged the four-cello part for Couloir, performed by Diane Chaplin, Katherine Schultz, Mario Bastea-Forte, and Valdine Ritchie Mishkin—members of the Portland Cello Project. Zwyze captures the energy, rhythmic complexity, and emotional honesty that defined Adam’s work—a vibrant tribute to his voice as both composer and drummer.
