A project such as Ava Dream has always been an outlet for the Georgia-raised musician tanukibears to challenge the musical landscape, not to take things seriously, and in some ways, just letting it all out. Even if it means doing it with emerald green hair and getting ripped in the process.
That method became the mixtape "Hatch," in the form of a dynamic collection of 8 tracks delving into Dream’s different aspects of contemporary dance, and - according to Dream - where she’s been when it comes to their discoveries in music nowadays.
Highlights include "ELK" - respectfully named after the fictional fitness clothing brand by tanukibears’ contemporary thesquarestart - incorporating beautifully sparkling chords with stabbing bass line over the bounce of cute, choppy garage beats. And a light energetic house track with the most directly booming synth bass, as if it’s calling you out to dance, is what you get with the track “Hazelnut".
Dream tops it off with the energizing Weather Channel jersey club beat that is “Freeloading.” Every two tracks complement each other well as a pair, from Garage to House, Drill to Jersey, when it comes to their respective styles.
Predominantly featuring hyperpop elements, the mixtape is a tribute to the late SOPHIE, with a slew of its records characterized by powerful kicks, bubbly samples, and rich, gooey textures. If you can describe music the way you’d describe food. I think we may have figured it out.
”Hatch” demonstrates Dream's talent for genre-blending while honoring the influence in the electronic music world.
