Driving by Toren

I wake up
Behind the wheel of a 1992 Subaru Outback
I’m snapped back from wherever I just was to
This place.
This plain with cows and no street lights or signs and
Somehow I have no idea how long I’ve been driving

I look down
From the look of my skin it seems I’m about 25
What state is this?
I can’t see any signs
And the lines on the ones I find make no sense to my eyes

I breathe deeply and try to jump start some small spark of memory in my brain
I’d say that I was happy but despite the clear day I am beside myself -
I don’t remember my own name

Did I somehow collapse or crack the very fabric of space
Or is this all some cosmic drama I’ll one day create
In my head, passed out and face down in some futuristic place
But with psychoactive incense instead of crack cocaine
I’ll hallucinate back to this very day
Driving an imaginary car in a far too familiar place.
