So much of today’s music is built around anticipation: the drop, the hook, the surprise - indeed, I hold my hands up to employing such tactics to maintain interest, particularly when writing for sync.
However when given a chance, I return to cinematic ambience like an old friend.
These tracks were written without the pressure to impress or distract, allowing each sound to live in its own time.
In place of spectacle, there is patience. In place of manipulation, openness.
This is music for those who want to sit with something quietly unfolding—music that doesn’t compete for your attention, but rewards it when freely given.
I’m Toby - a UK based composer, musician and producer.
For 25 years or so, I’ve had the pleasure of performing, writing and recording with, and for, some wonderfully talented people, such as the National Theatre, the BBC Big Band, and the RPO.
Right now, my main focus is writing for film, TV and other media - in addition to my remote session sax work.
