Ngoma Lungundu by tinofireyizhou

All tracks recorded in Mberengwa, Zimbabwe- a rural area and home to the Lemba/ Black Jewish community to which i am part of. this self recorded project was created using a portable mono recorder and open-source sound editing software.

I subsequently exhibited these soundscapes at SAVVY Contemporary (a project space in Berlin) as part of an installation titled Chitema Ne Chirungu.

This project was looking The Ngoma Lungundu, the sacred drum which the Lemba people believe to have carried along as they fleed from Jerusalem thousands of years ago. The Ngoma Lungundu is also known as the oldest wooden artifact in the Southern African region.

Tinofireyi Zhou aka aero5ol uses the spoken and written word, street art and sound-based intervention to engage and interrogate the world.
