Departures / Arrivals is an experimental audio memoir that follows my exploration of where memory is held. After having immigrated to the United States as a pre-teen 33 years ago, I return to sites significant to my life in Taiwan: the apartment building I grew up in, walks I took with family, the school I attended, and more.

At each site, I activate a memory in response to the spatial and acoustic qualities of the built environment. I treat my memory as a score. The body, voice, and architecture become instruments. And immaterial things such as feelings, stories, and cognitive patterns become materialized through sound and music.

Each performance I create unravels more memory and is repeated until the point of decay. This practice brings together fragments of what is remembered and ascertains what could not possibly be remembered. Each time, some memories congeal, some shed. And some rupture and reconstitute.

I record all the performances myself to capture my interactions with the site, including ambiences and spontaneous vocalization, movement, dialogue, and soundscape. With an insistence on marking the body on field recordings, I foreground the labor and subjectivity of memory work.

Presented as an album, Departures / Arrivals contains five tracks. Each track is a meditation on memory surrounding a specific place and relationship. Each composition presents a diasporic architecture, where a particular time/space is stretched and compressed at once. I invite you to listen in and between the cracks of sound, language, and memory.

《出境 / 入境》是一部實驗自傳式聲音創作，探索記憶存留之處。在33年前我於年少期移居美國，此計畫帶我回到台灣，走訪移居前生活具意義的地點：我童年的公寓大樓、與家人散步的路徑、曾就讀的國小等。

在每一個地點，我根據環境的空間與聲音特質，開啟一段記憶。我將記憶視為譜曲，身體、聲音與建築成為樂器，而感覺、故事及認知慣性等無形的事物，則透過聲音與音樂具體化。

每一次我創作的表演，都會結構更多的記憶，並重複進行，直到記憶開始衰退。這種做法將那些被記住的碎片拼湊在一起，同時確認那些不可能被記住的事。每一次，有些記憶凝聚，有些則脫落，而有些記憶則斷裂再重組。

我親臨錄現地製所有的表演，捕捉場地互動，包括環境音、即興的人聲表達、動作、對話以及音景。我堅持在實地錄音中標記身體的存在，以此凸顯連結記憶實踐中的勞動與主體性。

《出境 / 入境》以專輯的形式呈現，包含五首曲目。每一首曲目都是圍繞某個特定地點和關係的記憶冥想。每首展現出一種離散的架構，在其中，特定的時空被同時拉長與壓縮。我邀請你在聲音、語言與記憶的裂縫之間，仔細傾聽。
