Notes from mixer Nick on mix 3s:
I just sent you three new mixes with a variety of fixes. There is:
a - vocal mics panned very slightly ~10%
b - vocal mics panned more generously ~50%
c - 'solo' vocal sections close to center ~10%, 'duet' sections ~50%
You can pass them along to Wychwood with these notes:
- I improved the clarity of the tape loop in the intro. You can now hear a bit more of the tape noise, in particular on headphones, let me know if you find this objectionable.
- preserved more dynamics
- the issue Tim diagnosed correctly was rectified. His vocal mic was having phasing issues with the room mics. I diagnosed this earlier, but solved it poorly. In these mixes the tracks were manually phase-aligned, which is what I should've done in the first place.
- brought the guitar pickup significantly down, and added a very quiet, very small dark room verb (to just the guitar).
- the two main room mics were slightly panned in all mixes ~15%
Answering other specific questions in the doc:
- the 'mostly room' mixes were identical to the 'no silly' except for relative volume levels and verb
- I'm open to trying a direct recording of the poem as Tim suggested (or any and all other suggestions!), but in this case I'm not sure what benefit it would potentially bring (maybe removing the tape deck as a poor third room mic?)
