Just Words from Little Canyons by Timmy Vigilante

In order to make this song, I sampled the marriage of figaro, and an early renaissance mass, which only barely fit together harmonically. It was funny how it happened. I was recording the drum pattern from a keyboard while the vocal professor was practicing in the other room. I was practicing the lyrics to the song, and I realized that they actually fit together. I spent a few minutes just recording her voice, and then, in my renaissance history class, picked up a sample of the choir. The biggest challenge of the song was the "Out...out of my head", since it switches into a different time signature, which I still don't know.

The song is about feeling like you've permitted yourself to be too emotionally vulnerable and you've been hurt by it. Rather than feeling safe you feel ashamed and withdrawn. "just words" is the idea of pretending something hasn't happened, reducing something concrete to an idea to avoid confronting it. Uhm, it's also the weirdest thing on this entire record. Funny story, I originally modeled my lyrics, in a version of the song that is long dead, off of how I thought Drake worked, not imitating them, but using a similar kind of repetition, something I thought he used to great effect in his hooks. I attempted to use this repeated diminishing sentence as a basis for a hook in just words, but I don't think it worked quite the same way.
