Cadence from Little Canyons by Timmy Vigilante
During the fire, I had to put away my anxiety for an entire week, and give up my phone while on a trip down Glen Canyon in Utah on the river. My aunt remarked that my grandmother used to love the desert, and this drum pattern got stuck in my head, with something being sung in a very high pitched voice. I began to imagine the river, contemplating, as I do in Elephant Parts, the struggle to find meaning in spite of finite nature of our lives. Entropy acts always despite our best efforts.What I was remembering was my grandmother as she was dying.
To record this, I began with the bass drum pattern, and then played the mandola lead for the verse. The chorus was recorded seperately, and, ironically, does lead the C major chord from the beginning into a half cadence, and it only sort of resolves at that point. I then added bass, and then my voice. Later I decided to add the synthesizers and the organ.
