‘Exploration 84’ is widely regarded as a cornerstone album of the Synthwave genre, with good reason. Despite being released ten years ago, this Waveshaper classic still sounds fresh a decade later - no mean feat in a genre that continues to evolve exponentially from its ‘Outrun’ roots.
It’s difficult to understate the role this album - and Waveshaper himself - played in forging Synthwave’s modern identity: bridging the gap between vintage inspiration and ‘retro-futuristic’ polish.
This is a masterpiece that never falters. Its lush analog synths, driving rhythms and cinematic soundscapes showcasing the legendary Swedish producer’s ability to blend melody with atmosphere.
The end result is an interstellar masterpiece that sounds as futuristic as it does hauntingly familiar.
