FM Attack (AKA Shawn Ward) is a true pioneer of the Synthwave scene, coming to prominence at a time when when the genre was still in its infancy as a movement; underground, blossoming nicely on MySpace and in the blogosphere.

His mastery lies in creating lush, atmospheric soundscapes that transport listeners to a dreamy, neon-lit realm. It’s nostalgic music, once earning a name check by none other than Ryan Gosling - just weeks after the official release of Drive, in 2011 - and yet the production unquestionably sounds contemporary.

There’s no question that ‘Deja Vu’ marks a mesmerising high point for the scene. It’s a totemic release that holds a special place in the hearts of OG Synthwave fans. Two incredible collaborations with Kristine, notwithstanding, the album - first released in 2013 - is packed full of bangers.

It’s silky smooth Synthwave from start to finish, laced with elements of old school disco, and not a minute is wasted.

Masters of Outrun aims to celebrate the pioneers; the classics; and the releases that shaped the genre. FM Attack’s Deja Vu is the embodiment of this elusive trifecta, achieving all three with an absolute gem of an album that never gets old.
