At the intersection of Perry and Chestnut, you can't see what's coming 'round the bend.
We've been petitioning for years and years for a stop light to be hung high. For the accidents to stop coming.
For the city to stop playing pretend.

We buckle in as the hot day seatbelts burn our skin.
You and me. Me and you. And our dog also joins in.
Safe as can be as the car starts rolling smoothly down our once cobble-stoned street.

To begin a far, far journey. Much further than we thought.
As the morning glories creep up the front porch railing once cared for but now forgot.
It won't be long now.

In the last remaining shreds of sunlight punctuated by beams breaching the clouds in the sky
I look into your eyes like I did that very first time.

The screams from the people that we once held dear.
