open space by the tuneful quire

on the last day of march, i finally managed to make it to the "open space", a gallery and experimental theatre on the south side of tbilisi - i had been promised that i could use the piano there to make a recording. it was the last showing of a quite beautiful and interesting play, in which the piano featured in this session also played a significant role.

wow, the lady had character, she'd been through a lot - experimental plays and improv artists probably meant nothing to her. a bit broken and wheezy, a bit cracked in the voice, but infinitely soft and supple to the touch, we sat down together while the cast of the play partied in the other room.

and yeah, we created something beautiful. it's not the most polished session that i ever did, not by far. i was still spinning in the head, i was tired and aimless, didn't know what i was trying to do, and she, heh, maybe sometimes she didn't feel like holding my hand. we went into chaos and back out of it, jammed along with the tumultous ambience, then to be safe we spun through a couple classics and finished on a nursery rhyme.

there's something here. still can't say what it is. but this is improvisation at its rawest and that's what i've always done and always will do. and that will conclude, at least for now, these tbilisi sessions of "the tuneful quire". will be shifting the focus for some time...... so, until the next meeting, enjoy :)
