Story time:

This art rock and folk record was the first to be recorded in Kaleb Hikele’s homemade recording studio in Toronto, appropriately titled “The Townhouse Recording Facility & Sound Studio”. The sound of the album ranges from a modern psychedelic, experimental rock, to private and reserved folk, ending in a lullaby and literal whisper.

On “Chemistry”, you will hear Kaleb Hikele’s imaginative aim to dig up his rock and classical roots; tracks like the the refreshingly aggressive “Ready to Flood” and the folk-infused lullaby “Speak Quiet” perfectly contrast with each other. The opening song “The Morning Breaks” awakes and prepares you to sink into the following track “That Golden Crown” with a modern psychedelic sound.

Keep in mind, all sounds on this album were recorded in a basement in Toronto's east end, but the sound and scope reaches further beyond those four walls. All 10 songs were recorded and produced in his project studio in the one-man-band style he’s maintained over the last three years. Kaleb established a craft for songwriting with an organic, acoustic medium on piano and guitar, then arranging and performing other instruments to blow up the ideas into a recording beyond what he could perform live at the time.

The physical version of the album is available here with 46 minutes and 50 seconds worth of music, it fits nicely into your record collection and plays in any conventional compact disc player. A piece of paper was included in the original CD package that asked listeners to submit their valued opinions and thoughts to a collective blog. That site has since been lost to the void.

Thanks for listening.
