From the dowdy Bristol suburbs where I grew up, you could see the bright lights of the city centre six miles away. It was a similar feeling to sitting in a dimly lit theatre watching a performance taking place on a brightly lit stage. I always had this desire to be in the lime-light - to be part of the show - part of the whole romance.
