The Story:
An elusive Modern Soul gem, originally recorded in Los Angeles circa 1984. Dreamlike and intimate, this record drifts on lush, soulful orchestration, led by a mysterious female vocalist whose radiant voice and message-driven lyrics speak of inner strength and resilience.

Originally released through an independent Japanese radio station nestled in the heart of Little Tokyo L.A., this record was the sole output credited to the enigmatic band, known only as O-RYLEY. Pressed in a small batch and quietly circulated, the record seemingly slipped through the cracks of history, resurfacing only occasionally among deep dig collectors.

Decades later the story unfolds, and has now revealed the truth behind the mysterious band. Research has found that the amazing voice, of the once anonymous soul singer, is none other than legendary performing artist Kellee Patterson- most celebrated for her extraordinary work on the Black Jazz and Shadybrook record labels. Bound by pending label negotiations at the time, Kellee Patterson’s involvement was obscured, leaving the record shrouded in mystery until now.

Forty odd years after the original release, we also learn that the project was organized in part by Alphonso Hamilton, the man responsible for promotions at the radio station. Hamilton, along with record executive Nagao Masuda, pulled in top session players, and called upon Kellee Patterson's golden voice to help give birth to this unique and often overlooked masterpiece.

Fast-forward to 2026… Newly restored and remastered, this lost Modern Soul classic is finally given its proper due. This time issued on a very limited 7” 45RPM record courtesy of The Sound Council, O-RYLEY stands as a testament to the hidden brilliance and quiet endurance of a true sleeping beauty.
