I could stand to see a Carolina sunrise
when I am less fucked up
give up, entropy having its way with my body,
lying on my back on the couch and not moving
nowhere to go but to be a Carolina guy
Or a Carolina sunrise
when I didn't just self-indulge all over you
and scurrying from the shameful scene
maybe I don't know how to leave
but sunrise over the clouds
filling them up, feels almost like home
closest thing to heaven I'll ever know
loneliness at cruising altitude
and the lately familiar high-strung gut
sounding to pitch when plucked
abused by obsessive fingers
I could have stood to see this Carolina sunrise
just a little longer, always a little longer
clutching to mediocrity for fear of decline
but declining, declining
and I wish you were here
or that I were someone else instead, unmet
dull, and dumb
and able to just love this Carolina sunrise
