Warehouse Justice! by The NRG

2021 the album 'Live '94' was released, a document of a tour that never happened, by a band that never existed. A fake live album released deep in the midst of the pandemic lockdowns when there was no live music. 'Live '94' kick started a run of "reissues" from The NRG, radio sessions that were never broadcast, studio albums that were never recorded... even a cassette release in Japan of a Japanese tour that never took place, via Osaka based label Muzan Editions.

Now here we are in 2024, six releases later, and the debut album is finally coming out.

Warehouse Justice! was The NRG's love letter to the summer nights spent raving at free parties in the North of England, raves that were often held in unique and spectacular surroundings. These were raves far beyond the physical constraints of four walls and a roof, it seemed like soundsystems were being set up everywhere and anywhere - lush woodlands and forests, below huge, imposing cliff faces, inside disused quarries and old barns. Generators and speakers were being found where you would never imagine them to be found, blasting out eclectic mixtures of House, Progressive, Techno and Chilled sounds to an even more eclectic mix of ravers and dancers.

These free parties were more than just a rave, they were a physical experience far removed from anything you would find from going to a club or a festival. They were parties out in the wilds of Mother Nature, gatherings at the mercy of the elements. They weren't just a party, they were an adventure. Phoning friends and meeting in the pubs, trying to track down someone who knew the location. Blagging a lift in someone's car and then getting lost down country roads. There were sometimes treks through the stunning English countryside - and the excitement of hearing the sounds of the distant kick drum getting closer and closer - before you finally reached your destination. There was the euphoric rush on the dancefloor, whilst looking up at the clear summer night's sky packed full of stars. Sitting in the long grass, watching epic sunrises accompanied by the epic electronica. These free parties were wild, extraordinary journeys where all the senses were working overtime to compute the madness and joy of what you seeing, hearing and feeling.

Warehouse Justice! was The NRG creating an audio version of these emotions and experiences, merging the rave with chill-out to produce a fictitious soundtrack to one of those adventures. Blending together Rolling breaks, chilled Beats, dubby Ambient House, lush pads and hypnotic trance arps. Layering eclectic sounds and bpms to try and capture the sensory overload and journey of those incredible free party experiences.
This was the band laying the foundations for their Stadium Ambient sound.

It would be wrong to define The NRG as simply chill-out music for ravers. If they had existed their music could have provided a soundtrack for the early glimpse of dawn after a night of raving, a soothing assembly of sounds that provided the peace after the storm.
