Hell Screen by The New Human is directly inspired by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's classic short story of the same name, an audio interpretation of the narrative and tone that flows through the tragic story.
At times ethereal and still, at times manic and destructive, all the while with an ominous undercurrent gradually boiling away under the surface, occasionally spilling over, until finally erupting into a devastating final act.
Hell Screen is a work that questions the blurred lines between art and obsession, between necessity and sacrifice.
These themes and sounds still had unexplored avenues where new ideas could take shape, so The Shed Collective have re-imagined and carved their own path through a twisted soundscape to arrive at an alternative destination. One that only serves to pull you deeper into the nightmare.
Together, we are immensely proud to present you with our interpretation of Hell Screen, a journey we now invite you to take with us.
