Thesis by The Last New Ocean

When I was 16 I convinced my friends to start a band, and also convinced them that we could make records in my basement. We used to have fun, and do everything with reckless abandon. Somewhere along the way I became obsessed with pursuing polish and ultimately diluted my feelings into what I assumed "people" would like me to sound like. To put it bluntly, somewhere along the way I stopped having fun. So I sat myself into a recording setup I've used before in times of writers block. It consists of recording everything live into a Zoom H1N handy recorder and then overdubbing onto it however many times I feel I should. It's lo-fi, but in my opinion, charming. It's just a song, exactly how I can do it, no more, no less. It could sound better, but capturing them this way is somehow endearing to me. Ultimately, The Last New Ocean is a reflection on my most obtuse lyrical topics, my love of synths, my favourite power pop bands and my desire to have fun again.
