Freak Street by The Joint

The Joint was formed in July 1967 out of Folkestone-based band The Lonely Ones, who had included Noel Redding in their earlier line-up. Redding, of course, went on to fame and fortune when Jimi Hendrix enlisted him in his Experience. Also in The Lonely Ones was Jim Leverton, who went on to play with The Yardbirds.

The band met with scriptwriter David Llewelyn and film director/composer George Moorse and recorded soundtrack material in Germany for a series of Munich underground films that edge on the side of soft-core, including Jet Generation and Der Griller. Those soundtrack recordings are now available to stream under the compilation title Shwabing Affairs.

The recordings embodied within Freak Street were made during 1968 and early 1969 with the following personnel:

Most of The Joint's recordings were presumed destroyed or lost. This release has been remastered from a recently rediscovered 1/4-inch demo tape. While the tape has degenerated over time, the sound quality suffers in some places as a consequence. But to bring this great (almost) lost band to light again after so many decades, we are confident you will agree that uncovering, remastering, and releasing these songs was worth the effort.

Rick Davies went on from here to form Supertramp. John Andrews followed, becoming their first roadie and occasionally manning their soundboard mix, most notably at Tramp's 1970 Isle of Wight Festival appearance.
