His brother put him on to Goodie Mob & Outkast. Playing drums in his school's Jazzcombo & the symphonic orchestra of his hometown taught him about jazz & classical music. And then, there were skate videos, with their beautifully curated scores. He was fascinated by how rhythm & melody informed the skaters' styles. These videos introduced him to hiphop, and showed him the invaluable merit of music.
