I know it's over but I thought you should know
I brought you a gift last night before you told me to go
I left it in the top drawer of your bedside table
Just yesterday - it was our - bedside table

As I lay sleepless in this tent tonight
I wonder what will happen when that cassette meets your line of sight
Will you put it in you put it in your walkman
Or just toss it in the trash

for now I'm almost certain
It's lying there unseen
Confined in a small space
Like the one where our promises once gleamed

But like chaos everywhere our differences only expanded
And sure we fought for survival like a crew whos crash landed
But I guess it wasn't in the cards
Now I'm sleeping in a strangers backyard

Trying to fall asleep but I just can't
Maybe it's the the thoughts on my mind maybe I'm just cramped
In this small space
Can't even lie down with my legs straight

If you do play the tape
I hope you appreciate what It has to say
But for now that tape is just like me
Silent, in a small dark space, waiting to be free
