Endings by Allister Thompson
2020 was the 20th year in which I composed and recorded my own songs. Over that time I would often rerecord older songs as my capabilities improved, adding them to albums alongside newer compositions.
Having finally finished with all that and ready for a new stage, I decided to record a "bare-bones" version of some "greatest hits", just a mic, guitar, and voice, basic and unadorned. I did this over the course of several months. Hence, there are some inconsistencies in sound between songs.
The intention is to create a feeling like I'm performing a solo gig for you in your living room, as an ending to this phase of my musical life.
I have sandwiched this collection between two new "studio" recordings, cover versions of favourite songs by Be Bop Deluxe ("Panic in the World") and Anathema ("Untouchable, Part I"). There are also two traditional British songs on the album.
This is a Bandcamp-only release.
