Defiling Arcadia by The Cost of Living

"Defiling Arcadia" is thematically centered on the Cormac McCarthy novel "Blood Meridian". It is a story based on historical fiction, about a marauding band of mercenaries, in a post-Texas Revolution landscape in Northern Mexico, who are hired to scalp hunt, and quickly delve into depravity. The group is compromised of various violent figures, led by the charismatic and philosophical spokesman of death and carnage, Judge Holden. He is a highly educated man who holds war to be the highest form of divination, even claiming in a moment of ecclesiastic conviction, that "God is war". Atrocity becomes mundane as it is so common, broken up only in soliloquies of campfire mediations by Holden about the forcing of the unity of existence through combat. I read it during my time on quarantine, and it has yet to leave me and I do not think it ever will.
