iPod Dealer by The Breathing Effect

“iPod Dealer” was started out of a free-jam in early 2024. The newly formed five-piece played for two hours, going through many ideas, writing stream of conscious music as a group. At the end of the jam was this song almost in its entirety imagined on the spot. The music faded and after a brief moment of silence, Jon GK said, “That song could sell iPods.” For the next year the song was carved and refined carefully to stay true to the original spirit.

The theme of the song is empowerment through choice and owning your destiny, with lyrics by Lilliana Villines. The song was recorded as a live take straight to tape in downtown LA with engineer/producer Pat Howard after a full month of performing it on tour.

The beauty of this song is that the collaborative input is so evenly divided that, by the time it was all finished, each member of the band felt as though they were listening to a song from their own childhood, made by another band from another time.

The Breathing Effect began in 2013 as two lifelong friends embarked on a journey of songwriting and sonic experimentation. Over the last decade their palette has evolved in step with an ever-changing world, but their dedication to heartfelt music has stayed constant.
