Glass Territories from Thermoraft by Terraphonic

Glass Territories carves invisible lines through the air above Vokanu’s sprawling urban platforms. This piece isn't about physical routes, but how sound itself delineates new urban zones, a mapping of metropolitan existence where ancient island frequencies encounter the sharp hum of steel and glass. The intent here was to capture that precise moment tradition finds its footing within a bustling, mechanical labyrinth, articulating how adapted melodies delineate fresh cultural spaces. Listeners might feel an almost tactile sense of moving through distinct sonic neighborhoods, each marked by the whisper of hollow volcanic glass percussion or the rigid precision of crystallized metal strings, which hold the composition in place. Five instrumental voices, distinct yet inextricably woven, shift prominence, never vanishing entirely, much like citizens drifting through interconnected districts. It aims to evoke the resilience of a community continually finding its rhythm amidst unfamiliar structures, proving that true cartography now happens in the layers of sound.

We create soundscapes using volcanic glass percussion, singing obsidian, and thermal field recordings from seven floating islands. Each track maps geological phenomena into meditative compositions that blur the lines between ancient ritual and modern ambient exploration.
