On June 5, 2020, two members of the Buffalo Police Department assaulted Martin Gugino, a 75-year-old Catholic peace activist, while he was participating in a demonstration against police brutality. The protest in Niagara Square was part of the nationwide response to the murder of George Floyd by officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis. In the days following the Gugino incident, colleagues of the two BPD officers and some of their supporters came out en masse not only to excuse but actually applaud Gugino's mistreatment. Some of these individuals victim shamed Gugino and floated wild theories online to suggest that he staged the incident. Such people are the lowest of the low. They are sycophants, many of them acting in service to masters they'll never know.

[MSNBC anchor]: "This happened just in the last hour. Two police officers were charged with felony assault during a protest in Buffalo, and they were applauded by their colleagues as they left the courthouse. They were released without bail."
[Stef Zamorano]: "Without bail!"
[Jimmy Dore]: "And now some people are saying that that guy engineered that. He wanted that to happen."
[Zamorano]: "Oh yes, I've read that."
[Dore]: "Could you be dumber on purpose? And Russia overthrew our election....and Russia overthrew our elections. Do you know how stupid you sound?"
"Why did they have to push him over? Cuz they're cops, and they're dressed for fucking fighting. And they're looking to fuck some people up, and the first guy they saw they fucked him up!"
"They're just causing havoc. The cops are just, they don't even know what to do, they're just beating anyone who comes near them. They're just fucking with everyone. They're an out of control band of terrorists in your city. They have no idea what they're doing. They're out of their fucking minds!"
"It's like he was trying to slam his head as hard as possible. What in the fuck is wrong with people? Who in the fuck--?"
[Zamorano]: "How do you come up with that?"
[Dore]: "Did you see that cop punch that guy in the face? That guy moved his face into the cop's fist as hard as he could..."
