Black Swan by Tender Ender
Just before the end – and the moment after. A film between these two clock bars: opulent, cynical, soothing. The eponymous Black Swan: a freak of nature, an anomaly, a happy accident. Maybe, but not exactly a bearer of good news. This is doomsday pop: always pretty, and always pretty close to the edge. Thomas Schmidiger aka Tender Ender, who previously drew attention with overdriven vocals (Dead Bunny), reinvents himself as a solo artist with a transformed, surprisingly sonorous voice. Reluctance to embrace big moments and obvious kitsch overcome, the piano dusted clean and the sky full of violins. The desire to explore that was kindled here suggests that this is the beginning of a much longer journey. Accompanied by Mario Hänni (‘Mnevis’, drums) and Sabine Ruch (vocals), mixed by Manuel Egger. The album cover was shot by documentary film pioneer Jean Painlevé.
