Reactor

We set out at midnight
to reach the coast by first light
we found the beachhead easy
by walking in the dry creek

the beach was full of shipwreck
You let me wear your peacoat
we each concealed a dagger
in case of needing to cut throats

the sea was dark with wine stains
the clouds were swollen with a rain
the wind became a factor
your heart revealed a nuclear reactor

as dramatic as this sounds, it’s 100% the truth
of exactly what I found melting down the core of you
many fathoms underground, you are committed to decay
and I don’t want to be around when you finally get your way

we wound back in silence
holding our thoughts tightly
hand in hand we marched on
knuckles gleaming whitely

the trees were tossing their manes
stones were falling like rain
amid the weak attractor
your heart became a nuclear reactor
